Since I'm two corners away becoming a father, the past months were queued with parenting and whatnot books. February lead me to an interesting Zimbardo-like masterpiece that should have been a 6-pager essay; Peak : Secrets from the New Science of Expertise by Anders Ericsson and his pals - about successful people learning habits.
There was an experiment described where subjects were to memorize numbers dictated one at a second. After aggressive practice, trying different schemes, their focus subject was able to store 80+ digits. Me personally would be happy if I could remember the 6 digit Micro$oft account verification SMS codes for mere 30 seconds. Hope this will help me out within reasonable effort invested :)
Click start round to get started. Numbers are shown one at a second. There's 3 sec delay at the end before hiding the challenge. There is unlimited time after to remember. Winning a round gains one more digit. Missing the number reduces two. You can setup how the number set will be grouped (nnn-nnn-nnn-nn) under preferences. When starting a new game, a player ID will be assigned. This is stored in Cookies, restoring Your game if possible after leaving the site. You can also get a link to Your progress at the end of each game. If You share this link or somebody gets it - They can continue there as well. Now go spend at least 20 focused minutes here every day!
Each game played is logged. The whole point of this is to tune Your learning strategy based on continuous feedback. You should be able to reach about 15 digits fairly quickly. Then is gets insanely frustrating.
Have fun :)
